Dance Marathon at Bowling Green, it is a philanthropic event on an enormous scale to benefit ill or injured children at the Mercy Children's Hospital in Toledo via the Children's Miracle Network. Dance Marathon is run entirely by college students nationwide to benefit local children's hospitals, and Bowling Green State University is proud to have one of the largest and most active Dance Marathon organizations in the nation.
Unfortunately, there is no way that Dance Marathon can directly benefit all of the children at the hospital, though surely all children there may be touched one way or another by the work of the students at BGSU. Several children, known as Miracle Children, are selected every year as representatives of all of the kids helped by the funding raised by Dance Marathon. These Miracle Children and their Miracle Families are invited to the actual Dance Marathon event as well as other events throughout the year to share in the festivities and meet all the college students participating.
Though Dance Marathon is an event held the weekend of April 10-11 at the BGSU Rec Center, it really is a yearlong planning process. During the event in April, many college students participate as "dancers", they stay on their feet for thirty-two straight hours and have a great time playing with the miracle children. Some students participate as "moralers" and keep the dancers' spirits high or "bikers", and complete a "tour de Western Ohio" on bicycles. There are also grad students, faculty members, and BGSU alumni taking part in Dance Marathon as well as Steering members and their core committees.
Getting involved in Dance Marathon is very easy! Feel free to browse the site to find out more about all of these, or sign up by following this link. Anybody in the Bowling Green community is welcome to help in any way, whether it is through financial support or showing up to Dance Marathon in April to cheer the students on.
